If you don't do that it wont work. So, you make sure you keyboard is NOT connected to the computer. Install the drivers from the disc that should have come with the keyboard. Reboot the computer and only then should you connect your keyboard.make sure the keyboard is switched off before you connect. Once you have connected then switch on the keyboard and the add new hardware wizard should pop up.

Does the computer freeze at that point? If not, just follow the prompts to install the software automatically and it should find the drivers and install them.

Saul Site Admin ' Hope this helps, Clyde. A defective keyboard right out of the box is highly unlikely and the least possible reason you are having problems. We have had thread after thread of people not being able to get their keyboards recognized by their computer or software, invariably it always turns out that either the installation procedure was done incorrectly, or software settings were not done correctly, the midi/USB cables were installed incorrectly, or there is a setting within the computer that needs to be changed. To the best of my knowledge we have not seen these types of issues caused by a new defective keyboard in the several years I have been on this forum. The brand of cable is not so important, just that some brands have the leads marked in a confusing manner so they get installed backwards. Try Sauls install instructions in my previous post, but un-install you present drivers, re-install the drivers, then plug in your keyboard. And are you using Yamaha's USB midi drivers?

You may want to check their website for any newer drivers for your applicataion. I understand what Dan is saying here. Some keyboards do come with a cd that you can only install the drivers in one way and that is to plug the keyboard in and install the usb drivers last. This, I think is the main reason why so many people have problems getting things connected.

In most cases when installing a usb device you would install the drivers first so that when you plug the device in the drivers are already there and you simply follow the on screen prompts. I have found over the years that where drivers are installed from a cd last it's often the case that it does not work. What I would do here is first download the shareware version of and then use that to uninstall your midi drivers. The reason I say use this program is because it will 'completely' uninstall the drivers. If you use the standard uninstall remnants will be left behind. Once you have done that, reboot, but make sure you don't have any other usb devices plugged in.just to save confusion. Then plug in your keyboard and follow the drive install procedure once again.

Hopefully it will then pick up the keyboard properly. Failing that I think it's going to have to be a call to Yamaha tech support.

Yamaha dgx 620 keyboard

Hi All, I have a Yamaha DGX-640 keyboard and have purchased Logic Pro X with the hope of using my keyboard as a host for the sounds on logic to record MIDI. However, i cannot get the keyboard to be recognised by my MacBook Air despite trying to locate the keyboard in the MIDI Studio window as recommended. There is absolutely no recognition the keyboard is plugged in despite trying various cables and USB ports. Having asked a music shop wether my keyboard is compatible they stated yes and showed me with a similar model how to connect it to a Mac via the USB plug in, resulting in the exact outcome i need (although this software was not Logic). However, the Mac clearly recognised the keyboard had been plugged in.

When i later tried the same process i had no such luck and have searched the internet for solutions to which i always get to the end of the bug fix steps without any joy or results. Can anyone suggest anything i have not already tried, excluding new cables or different USB ports. I have also tried a different computer (Mac) with the same effect.
